The Wood Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, maintaining, and monitoring woodworking machinery to produce timber and joinery components according to technical drawings and specifications. The role ensures precision, high-quality workmanship, and adherence to workplace health and safety standards, supporting SHR Joinery Pty Ltd’s custom joinery production.

Duties:
- Set up, operate, and adjust woodworking machinery, including CNC routers, panel saws, edge banders, and spindle moulders, for production runs.
- Read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, plans, and job specifications to produce accurate timber and joinery components.
- Select appropriate timber or manufactured boards, inspect for quality and defects, and prepare materials for machining.
- Measure, mark, and cut materials to precise dimensions using hand tools and machinery.
- Assemble and finish components, including sanding, polishing, and edge profiling.
- Inspect completed components to ensure dimensional accuracy, surface quality, andcompliance with specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor troubleshooting on woodworking machinery, reporting any defects or faults.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workshop in compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.
- Collaborate with production team members to meet project timelines and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all timber and joinery products meet SHR Joinery’s quality standards and client specifications.
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and relevant industry standards.
- Monitor machinery performance and implement adjustments to maintain production efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workflow, product quality, and efficiency.
- Accurately document production output, material usage, and maintenance activities.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, designers, and other team members to coordinate workflow.
- Demonstrate accountability for personal workmanship and adherence to company procedures.
Qualification & experience
- Certificate III in Wood Machining, Cabinetmaking, or equivalent. OR at least three years of relevant work experience may substitute for formal qualifications.
- Strong knowledge of woodworking materials, joinery techniques, and machine operation.
- Minimum 1 year of full-time experience in wood machining, joinery, or a related woodworking role.
- Practical experience operating CNC machinery, panel saws, routers, edge banders, and spindle moulders.
- Proven ability to work to precise specifications, quality standards, and project timelines.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and job specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and precision in workmanship.
- Knowledge of timber properties, machining techniques, and joinery processes.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot woodworking machinery.
- Effective teamwork, communication, and coordination skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to production challenges.
